Excursions from Lienz

Apartment Lilly is located in the town of Lienz in the south of Austria. Here we list some of our recommended excursions for visiting guests.



Grossglockner High Alpine Road

This famous road which takes you through the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park and past the Pasterze Glacier and Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain. 48 km long, 36 bends and an impressive assent of 2504 meters. The toll road is only open during the summer months.

Cortina and the Italian Dolomites

The famous Italian Dolomite Mountains are very close to Lienz. Here you can experience breathtaking scenery distinctive only in the Dolomite region. Cortina is a beautiful town set in the heart of the region and is suitable for visiting all year round. A visit to see the spectacular 'Tre Cime di Lavardo' is also recommended.

Venice

A day trip to Venice is possible all year round departing from Lienz. Explore the canals and famous sights in this romantic and amazingly unique city. Highly recommended for those who have never been before.

Salzburg

Salzburg is the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Visit his birth place or alternatively enjoy a city that is rich in culture, arts, music, history, festivals and beauty. Hundreds of sights, plenty of quality shops and a vibrant nightlife.

Ljubljana

With under 300,000 residents, the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is relatively small. But this fascinating city with its relaxing atmosphere can soon feel like home. Its river banks are filled with gourmet restaurants and chic bars. 

Hohe Tauern National Park

Ötzi Ice Mummy Museum in Bolzano

In the South Tyrolean city of Bolzano, in the museum of archaeology, the iceman is exhibited with all his clothing and equipment. Discovered in 1991, Ötzi is one of the most well-known mummies in the world and is believed to be over 5000 years old.

Raggaschlucht Canyon in Mölltal

Over thousands of years, the waterfalls at the Raggaschlucht have formed one of the most beautiful natural gorges in the whole of the Alps. A carefully constructed wooden walkway takes you through the narrow gorge where you can enjoy nature first hand.

A visit to one of the Carinthian Lakes

The state of Carinthia, located to the East of Lienz has an abundance of large natural lakes many of which are suitable for swimming. Whether it’s the glamour of Velden on the Wörthersee, a boat ride on the Millstättersee or the stunning natural beauty of the Weissensee, you can be sure to find an excursion to suite your needs.

Umbalfälle in Virgental

Set in the Hohe Tauern National Park, the River Isel forces its way through the narrow valley at the Umbalfälle into a series of cascades and waterfalls which was declared a national monument in 1991 and symbolises the Hohe Tauern Park.
