The town of Lienz has many seasonal events taking place throughout the year. If you are visiting in winter or summer, there is a good chance that you will be able to experience one of the events. Here we list a few of the most popular events taking place.

Lienz Town Market
The Lienz town market located in the old part of the town, takes place every Friday afternoon (1pm - 5.30pm) and Saturday morning (9am - 1pm). Here you can buy the very best of local produce as well as traditional gifts to take home with you.
JANUARY
The Dolomitenlauf - cross country skiing event
For over 40 years the Dolomitenlauf is a big theme in East Tyrol. Each year more and more international athletes take part in two disciplines competing in the wonderful surroundings of Obertilliach. Entrants include Olympic Champions as well as local matadors and hobby skiers.
JUNE
The Dolomitenradrundfahrt
With the start and finish in Lienz, this legendary cycle race takes you through some of the nicest mountain regions in the East Alps. The 123km and 2,700m height difference is a sporting challenge and an absolute cycling highlight for the 1000's of competitors taking part.
JUNE to SEPTEMBER
Lienz Summer open air concerts
Traditional local music is on offer for visitors during the summer months. The free concerts take place on the Lienz Main Square during the evenings on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
JULY
OLALA - International Street Theatre Festival
Once a year the streets of Lienz turn into a colourful stage and festival. At the international street theatre festival, taking place every July, you will be able to see a number of high class acts and theatre groups performing live in the city centre. The streets and allies in Lienz turn into a magical theatre for 7 days where you can expect a magical feeling lasting for days. And best of all it is completely free!
JULY/AUGUST
Moonlight Shopping
Twice a year in July and August Lienz puts on two Moonlight Shopping events. All the shops are open until late and live music can be heard all around the old town at various locations. There’s also plenty to eat and drink with popup bars and places to sit down and eat to enjoy a great evening with lots of atmosphere on a lovely summer’s evening.
SEPTEMBER
Red Bull Dolomitenman
The unofficial world championship of extreme sports. Red Bull Dolomitenmann claims to be the hardest team competition in the world which all athletes and spectators can confirm. Only the fittest teams make it to the finish. A runner, a paraglider, a canoeist and a mountain biker race on a mountain course in different stages.
DECEMBER
Christmas Market
The Lienz Christmas market is considered to be one of the most romantic Christmas markets in Austria. The town hall is converted into a giant Advent Calendar and on the Lienz Main Square the Christmas stalls sell their wares and delicious food and drinks to the sound of Christmas songs sung by children from local schools.

Ladies World Cup Skiing
Every two years the ladies World Cup skiing event comes to the Hochstein ski resort in Lienz. The piste is considered a challenging race with 'city flair’. The finishing area is situated directly on the edge of the city. The event which is staged over two days sees the world’s best ladies competing in slalom and giant slalom skiing events.
